Track & Field Heads to Bay for Stanford Invite

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly track and field heads to the Bay this Friday and Saturday to take part in the prestigious Stanford Invitational and Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
A total of 54 Mustangs will be in action as 52 are slated to compete in the two-day Stanford Invite while only Lianna Guerra and Ashlyn Leath will race at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on Friday morning.

Cal Poly is fresh off winning seven events at the West Coast Relays last weekend and seeing Carson Smith (No. 3 men’s 800-meter), Ava Simos (No. 5 women’s 200), Madison Easter (No. 6 women’s 100) and Camrenne Genilla (No. 10 women’s javelin) all record top 10 marks in program history.
A Mustang won the Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week award for the third straight week on Tuesday after Aidan McCarthy ran the third fastest men’s 800 time in the West Region this season and the No. 6 time in Division I to capture first at the West Coast Relays. He will run in the invite section of the men’s 1,500 at Stanford on Friday night.
Following this week’s action, the Mustangs will travel to Southern California on April 16-18 to take part in two of the best collegiate track meets in the country — the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays.
