
Cal Poly Shut Out by No. 40 Santa Clara on Wednesday Afternoon

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Cal Poly men’s tennis was shut out by No. 40 Santa Clara on Wednesday, falling 7-0 at the Degheri Tennis Center.
The Mustangs stunned ranked pair No. 57 Boschmans/Lemaitre on court two when Aaron Eliscu and Sean Kamyshev opened the doubles slate with a 6-2 statement win.
Despite the early momentum swing, Jovan Lubbe/Leo Matthysen at ones and Raz Haviv/Sean Ferguson on court three were edged 4-6 and 5-7, respectively to yield the team doubles point.
Santa Clara carried its momentum into singles play, sweeping all six matches, four of them in straight sets. After the match was already clinched mathematically, it was decided the final two matches heading to a third set would be played via super tiebreaker, which Lubbe and Kamyshev were edged in.
The Broncos quickly extended their lead with a win at No. 4 singles, followed by consecutive victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Santa Clara clinched the overall team victory with a win at No. 6, before finishing out the remaining matches at No. 1 and No. 5 to complete the 7-0 sweep.
