
Ozerets Makes History as Cal Poly Secures 6-1 Win at UT Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas — Senior Alexandra Ozerets became the program leader in career dual singles victories as Cal Poly women’s tennis rolled to a 6-1 victory at UT Arlington on Tuesday.
The Mustangs made a statement early against the Mavericks (4-11), winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.
First, juniors Candela Aparisi and Natalie Lynch picked up a 6-3 win at No. 2, improving to a team-best 8-4 on the season. Then senior Kennedy Buntrock and sophomore Jessica MacCallum secured the doubles point with a 6-3 victory of their own at No. 1, moving to 7-4 on the year. Redshirt junior Amy Leather and freshman Tia Bonita Jakupovic-Kljako completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 triumph at No. 3.
In singles, Cal Poly earned dominant straight-set victories at No. 3, 4 and 5 to lock up the dual rather quickly. Lynch grabbed the first win with a commanding 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 5, improving to 8-5 on the year.
Ozerets got the next victory at No. 4 and made history in the process. With a 6-2, 6-4 win, Ozerets picked up 53rd career dual singles victory, surpassing Peyton Dunkle (52) for the most in program history. She improved to a team-best 9-5 on the year.
Aparisi won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 to clinch the dual win for the Mustangs.
After a retirement by the Mustangs at No. 1, Jakupovic-Kljako made it 5-1 Cal Poly with a hard-fought victory at No. 6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4).
MacCallum closed out the strong day for the Mustangs with a comeback victory at No. 2. After dropping the first set 5-7, she rallied for a 7-5 second-set victory before winning a super tiebreaker 10-2.
Cal Poly (8-6) completes its trip to Texas with a visit to No. 23 TCU (13-2) at 3:30 p.m. PDT Wednesday.
