
Miller Runs Top-10 Time in 5,000 at Aztec Distance Carnival

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Fourteen Cal Poly distance runners opened the outdoor portion of their track and field season Friday night at the Aztec Distance Carnival hosted by San Diego State.
True freshman Liam Miller highlighted the performances by the Mustangs at the SDSU Sports Deck, running the eighth-fastest men’s 5,000-meter time in school history (13:56.85) to secure a third-place finish in his first career track meet at Cal Poly.
Fellow true freshman Tyler Daillak had a strong showing in the men’s 5,000 as well, finishing seventh with a personal best time of 14:06.83.
On the women’s side, sophomore Renae Searls impressed in the 5,000, running a nearly 30-second lifetime best of 16:46.53 to capture second at the meet. Junior Ashlyn Leath also posted a PR in the event (17:05.67).
In the women’s 1,500, sophomore Ella Echsner (4:31.51) and true freshman Avery Smith (4:33.56) both ran personal bests to finish 10th and 11th respectively.
Cal Poly continues its outdoor season on Saturday, March 21, when they host the fourth annual Mark Conover Classic at the Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex.
