Mustangs Sweep St. Mary’s 7-0 to Close Weekend

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly women’s tennis couldn’t have scripted a better way to end the weekend, sweeping St. Mary’s Sunday 7-0 at Ronca Tennis Center.
Cal Poly started off the match by taking the doubles point over the Gaels. The No. 3 duo of Sarah MacCallum and Alexandra Ozerets won their match 6-2 before Natalie Lynch and Candela Aparisi won their match at the No. 2 spot 6-2 to seal the point.
MacCallum and Ozerets are now 3-0 on doubles together while Aparisi and Lynch are 3-1 as a duo.
In singles, the Mustangs continued their dominance. Aparisi started it off with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. Lynch followed suit shortly after at the No. 4 spot with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Amy Leather then won her first singles match of the season at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-2 to officially clinch the win for Cal Poly.
At the No. 1 spot, Kennedy Buntrock won her match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to remain unbeaten in singles this season at 5-0. Aspen Chung then won her first match of the season at the No. 5 spot in comeback fashion, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0(6). The sweep was rounded out a short time later by Ozerets at the No. 3 spot as she won 7-5, 6-7(4), 1-0(2).
The Mustangs are off from action this week before returning Tuesday, Feb. 17 for a home doubleheader. Tbey will square off with UC Riverside at 10 a.m. before taking on Fresno State at 2 p.m.
