
Women's Tennis Picks Up 4th Straight Victory

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s tennis team rolled to its fourth straight victory on Friday at the Degheri Tennis Center, earning a 5-2 victory over Santa Clara.
The 64th-ranked Mustangs (5-3) opened the dual by capturing the doubles point. At No. 1, senior Kennedy Buntrock and sophomore Jessica MacCallum teamed up for a 6-1 victory to improve to 3-2 as a pairing this season. After the Broncos (3-7) won at the No. 3 spot, juniors Candela Aparisi and Natalie Lynch stepped up at No. 2 and delivered the doubles point for the Mustangs with a 6-3 triumph, improving to a team-best 5-2 on the season.
In singles, Santa Clara knotted the dual up at 1-1 with a win at No. 1, but then the Mustangs won three straight matches in straight sets to silence the Broncos and seal the dual victory.
Senior Alexandra Ozerets coasted to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 to move to 6-2 on the season. The triumph also allowed the Mission Viejo, Calif. native to jump to No. 3 all-time in Cal Poly history in career dual singles victories. Then Lynch won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 to put Cal Poly up 3-1, and Aparisi clinched it with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2. Lynch and Aparisi both improved to 5-3 on the season.
Santa Clara won at No. 5 to make it 4-2, and then true freshman Tia Bonita Jakupovic-Kljako finished off the dual by earning her first career singles win, defeating her opponent at No. 6, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5).
Cal Poly takes on San Jose State at noon on Saturday to cap its road trip to the Bay Area.
