
Mustangs Open Big Sky Play Saturday at No. 21 Sacramento State

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly football team will begin Big Sky play this week when going on the road to face No. 21 Sacramento State. Kickoff Saturday is set for 6 p.m.

Cal Poly holds a narrow 22-21 lead in the all-time series which dates back to 1967. Last year, the Mustangs beat Sacramento State 26-23 in the season finale.
The Mustangs are currently 2-2 overall heading into conference play, coming off a 35-27 loss at Stephen F. Austin last week. Senior wide receiver Michael Briscoe had 140 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Briscoe currently leads the entire FCS in receiving touchdowns with seven. He also has had over 100 yards receiving in three of the first four games. As a team, Cal Poly ranks as the ninth-highest passing offense in the FCS. Defensively, the Mustangs rank 19th in the FCS in sacks with 10.
The Hornets are also 2-2 on the season after a 45-16 victory over Central Arkansas last weekend. Sacramento State has scored 45 or more points and surpassed at least 500 yards of total offense during their two-game win streak. Defensively, they lead the FCS in sacks with 18.
Following Saturday’s game against Sacramento State, the Mustangs host rival UC Davis at Mustang Memorial Field next Saturday, Oct. 4 for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
