Current and Former Mustang Beach Volleyball Players Perform Strong at AVP Events

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Some current and former Cal Poly beach volleyball student-athletes have represented the program strong the last couple weeks with impressive performances at two AVP pro events.
Several competed at the AVP Laguna Open and the Hermosa Beach Open. At the AVP Laguna Open, 20 percent of the entire field was either current or former Mustang beach players.
The AVP Laguna Open was highlighted by recently graduated Piper Ferch finishing third, former Mustang player and coach Mariah Whalen finishing fifth, current Mustangs Bailey Showalter and Izzy Martinez placing ninth, and current Mustangs Logan Walter and Elise Lenahan placing 13th.
At the Hermosa Beach Open, Martinez and recently graduated Lindsey Sparks qualified for the main draw. In the main draw, former Mustang Torrey Van Winden finished ninth, Whalen finished 13th, Sparks and Martinez placed 17th, Logan Walter placed 25th, Ferch and current Mustang Erin Inskeep lost to Martinez in the loser's bracket.
With school starting this week, all of the current Mustang players will be back on campus to start fall practices Thursday.
