SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After another weekend of dominance, Cal Poly beach volleyball duo Ella Connor and Erin Inskeep were named Big West Pair of the Week for a second straight week.
Connor and Inskeep went a perfect 6-0 over the weekend without dropping a set at the Big West Challenge in Long Beach. They collected wins over all the other Big West teams, including No. 11 Long Beach State and No. 13 Hawai’i while playing primarily at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. This is the third team this season they've been named Big West Pair of the Week.
Connor hit a huge milestone individually as well over the weekend. She surpassed 100 career victories, becoming the third player in program history to win 100 matches as a Mustang. She now sits at 101 career wins, which is tied for the program record with former Mustang greats Piper Ferch and Emily Sonny.
They helped the Mustangs also go 6-0 as a team at the Big West Challenge to stretch the team’s win streak to 15 matches, the longest active win streak in Division I, and improve to 20-2 overall on the season.
Inskeep and Connor are now 21-1 as a pair on the season. That is tied for the team lead with Izzy Martinez and Logan Walter who are also 21-1. The two Mustang pairs currently lead the country in wins on the season.
Cal Poly has been dominant as a team so far this season. The team’s combined record in matches this season is 95-10 thanks to 18 of the team’s 20 wins being 5-0 sweeps.
The No. 4 Mustangs will be off from competition this week. They will return to the sand April 3-4 for the ultra-competitive Best in the West in Laguna Beach. There, they will take on No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 USC, and No. 10 Long Beach State.
