LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Cal Poly beach volleyball team continued its stretch of dominance Sunday, sweeping all three of its matches Sunday in Long Beach at the Big West Challenge to push the team’s win streak up to 15 matches.
The No. 3 Mustangs took down Cal State Bakersfield, No. 11 Long Beach State, and Sacramento State all by scores of 5-0 to improve the team’s record to 20-2. 18 of the 20 wins have been via sweep.
A major milestone was reached Sunday by redshirt senior Ella Connor, who after winning all three of her matches Sunday surpassed 100 career victories, becoming third player in program history to do so. She is now tied for the program record for career wins with 101. She currently shares that record with former Mustang greats Piper Ferch and Emily Sonny.
With three wins on the day each, the pairs of Connor and Erin Inskeep as well as Logan Walter and Izzy Martinez both improved to 21-1 on the season. Also collecting three wins each on the day were the pairs of Ashliegh Adams and Quinn Perry as well as Julia Westby and Elise Lenahan. Both continue to stay perfect playing together with Adams/Perry at 16-0 and Lenahan/Westby at 15-0.
Cal Poly will be off this coming weekend before returning to action April 3-4 in Laguna Beach for the Best in the West tournament. There, they will face four teams all currently ranked in the top 11 in UCLA, Stanford, USC, and Long Beach State.
