Hamad has a unique combination of skill and size that makes him an incredible fit for our style of play. We’re very excited to see what Hamad can get done with his ability to shoot, dribble and pass at 6-8 and with his seven-foot wingspan. In addition, he’s a great teammate, excellent student and will be an all-around great fit for Cal Poly.”- Mike DeGeorge, Cal Poly Head Coach
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Providing a seven-foot wingspan for one of the nation’s top-scoring offenses, second-year Cal Poly head coach Mike DeGeorge announced recently that 6-8 guard Hamad Mousa has joined the Mustangs as a transfer from Dayton.
A native of Doha, Qatar and alum of the NBA Global Academy’s Australia division, Mousa will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2025-26 season. Just the second player from Qatar to feature for a Division I program, Mousa intends to major in interdisciplinary studies.
“Hamad has a unique combination of skill and size that makes him an incredible fit for our style of play,” said DeGeorge, whose initial Cal Poly squad finished third among 355 NCAA Division I programs last season with 11.5 three-pointers per game and 19th with 82.1 points per game. “We’re very excited to see what Hamad can get done with his ability to shoot, dribble and pass at 6-8 and with his seven-foot wingspan. In addition, he’s a great teammate, excellent student and will be an all-around great fit for Cal Poly.”
Mousa made 20 appearances as a freshman last season for a Dayton squad that finished 23-11 overall and reached the NIT second round while scoring against NCAA Tournament qualifiers North Carolina and Iowa State.
Selected to compete at the 2024 Nike Hoops Summit while at the NBA Global Academy (Canberra, Australia), Mousa averaged 9.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game for the Qatar Men’s National Team during the 2024 FIBA Asia Cup qualifying tournament.
From a standout basketball family, Hamad’s father, Yassin Mousa, was the first player from the Arab world invited to the Nike Hoops summit in 2000 before helping lead Qatar to the 2014 FIBA 3X3 World Championship title. One of Hamad’s brothers competes for the Qatar U18 team.
