FIGHTING FOR A TITLE: With four matches remaining in the regular season, Cal Poly currently sits in second place in the Big West standings with a 4-1 conference record. No. 44-ranked and Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara (8-8) leads the Big West with a perfect 4-0 record. UC San Diego is right behind the Mustangs in the standings with a 4-2 Big West record, so Friday’s match at the Ronca Tennis Center will be pivotal in determining seeding for the conference tournament.
RANKINGS UPDATE: Cal Poly moved up one spot to No. 50 in the latest ITA team rankings after taking down No. 70 Hawai’i 5-2 last week in Honolulu. This marks the seventh straight week the Mustangs have been nationally ranked. Cal Poly is 15-3 on the season, the team’s most wins in a season since finishing the 2022 season 17-7 and their sixth most ever in Division I history. The Mustangs have also won 13 of their last 14 matches.
EXCELLING IN SINGLES: Five players have double-digit singles victories this season, led by freshman Jessica MacCallum who is 14-3, 12-1 at the No. 5 spot and 4-1 in Big West play. With 14 wins, MacCallum is currently tied for the 17th most singles victories in a season in program history. She has won her last five matches and 14 of her last 15. Junior Alexandra Ozerets is 13-4 this season and 9-2 at No. 4, senior Peyton Dunkle is 12-2 and 11-2 at No. 2, sophomore Natalie Lynch is 12-4 and 9-3 at No. 6 and senior Romane Mosse is 11-6 and 6-3 at No. 3.
CLOSING IN ON HISTORY: Dunkle is just two singles wins away from matching Carol Erickson’s school record of 51 for career dual singles victories. She is also three doubles wins away from tying the school record for career dual doubles victories (54) this season. Dunkle has a 49-20 career singles record and a 51-25 career doubles record.
DYNAMIC DUO: Mosse and doubles partner Kennedy Buntrock own an 11-3 record this season, including a perfect 6-0 mark since moving to the No. 2 spot in the lineup. The duo has won their last six matches.
SCOUTING THE TRITONS: In its first full season being eligible for the Big West postseason tournament, UC San Diego is 9-7 this season and 4-2 in Big West play. This past weekend, the Tritons defeated UC Riverside 4-0 and UC Irvine 4-3. UCSD beat No. 66 Fresno State 6-1 earlier this season — a team Cal Poly lost to 4-3 at home on Feb. 9 — and will face the Gauchos on Sunday after taking on the Mustangs. Cal Poly is 5-1 all-time against the Tritons.
UP NEXT: Cal Poly hosts its final two home matches of the season next weekend at the Ronca Tennis Center. The Mustangs face Cal State Fullerton at noon on Saturday, April 12, before wrapping up their 2025 home slate on Sunday, April 13, at noon against UC Irvine. Cal Poly will honor its three seniors prior to the dual with the Anteaters.
