SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - After another strong showing against top ranked programs, Cal Poly beach volleyball has moved up to No. 6 in the latest national rankings. Next, the Mustangs will travel to Austin, Texas, for the Lone Star Invitational this weekend for their final tournament of the regular season.
Now ranked No. 6 in the country with a 22-6 record, the Mustangs sit just behind top teams like UCLA, TCU, and Stanford. The Mustangs are the top-ranked Big West team and are just ahead of Texas and Florida State, two teams they’ve faced against in recent weeks.
The two-day invitational tournament begins Friday, April 18, and will feature four matches for the Mustangs, including a matchup against No. 7 Texas. Cal Poly will open the weekend with an early matchup against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 8 a.m. PT.
The Mustangs are coming off a fierce weekend at the Center of Effort Challenge, where they picked up a key 4-1 win over No. 7 Florida State before falling to top-ranked TCU. This weekend, Cal Poly will enter the Lone Star Invitational tournament with momentum and a higher national ranking. The Mustangs are looking to close out their regular season strong before heading into the Big West Championship next week in Santa Monica.
