No. 51 Cal Poly Wins 6th Straight, Downing No. 70 Hawai'i 5-2

HONOLULU, O'ahu — The Cal Poly women's tennis team secured its third ranked victory of the season Wednesday, defeating No. 70 Hawai'i 5-2 at the UH Tennis Complex to improve to 4-1 in Big West play.
The win was the sixth straight for the 51st-ranked Mustangs and allowed them to improve to an astounding 15-3 on the season, their most wins in a season since finishing the 2022 season 17-7 and their sixth most ever in Division I history.
For the fifth consecutive match, Cal Poly opened the dual by capturing the doubles point. First, sophomore Natalie Lynch and freshman Jessica MacCallum picked up a 6-3 triumph at No. 3 to improve to 5-1 together and up their winning streak to four. Then senior Romane Mosse and junior Kennedy Buntrock grabbed their sixth straight victory, earning a 6-4 win at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point and move to 11-3 as a pairing.
In singles, Hawai'i (7-6, 5-2 Big West) quickly leveled the match at 1-1 with a win at the No. 1 spot before Lynch put Cal Poly back in front 2-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6 to improve 12-4 this season, 9-3 at the No. 6 spot and 4-1 in Big West play.
The four remaining singles matches all went to a third set with Cal Poly emerging victorious in three of them. Junior Alexandra Ozerets put the Mustangs on the verge of clinching the dual with a three-set victory at No. 4 to move to 13-4 this season and 4-1 in Big West matches.
Senior Peyton Dunkle captured her sixth consecutive victory to clinch the dual for Cal Poly, winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 to improve to 12-2 this season, 11-2 at the No. 2 spot and 3-1 in Big West matches. The win allowed her to tie Sheila Lewis (2003-06) for the second most dual singles victories in Cal Poly history with 49. She is two wins away from matching Carol Erickson's school record of 51.
MacCallum earned Cal Poly's fourth and final singles victory of the day with a 6-1, 6-7 (0-7), 6-4 triumph at No. 5. It was her fifth straight victory and 14th in the last 15 matches she's played in. With a 14-3 record, MacCallum is currently tied for the 17th most singles victories in a season in program history.
Mosse dropped a hard-fought three-set battle at No. 3, 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 2-6.
Cal Poly returns home on Friday, April 4, at 1 p.m. to host UC San Diego. The Mustangs will be seeking their 14th win in their last 15 matches.
