Ferguson Tiebreaker Victory Clinches Cal Poly Win Over Nevada

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Cal Poly men's tennis went to war with Nevada on Thursday in La Jolla with four of the six singles matches going to three sets and it was the Mustangs coming out on top 4-3 thanks to a third set tiebreaker win by sophomore Sean Ferguson.
Cal Poly started the match taking the doubles point over the Wolfpack following a 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot by the Mustang duo of Raz Haviv and Sean Kamyshev as well as a 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot by Ferguson and Aaron Eliscu.
Playing at the No. 6 spot in the lineup, Ferguson came back after dropping the first set 6-2 to win the second set 6-3 and come out on top in the third set via tiebreaker 7-6(4) to give Cal Poly its fourth and clinching point of the match.
Prior to Ferguson winning his match, Kamyshev started off singles with a 7-5, 7-6(4) win at the No. 4 spot. After Nevada won at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots to tie the match 2-2, freshman Jack McGary collected a hard fought 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 5 spot to give the Mustangs a 3-2 advantage.
Nevada tied the match 3-3 after a win at the No. 2 spot before Ferguson came through in his third set tiebreaker to seal the victory for Cal Poly.
The Mustangs will compete in a the 136th annual Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament in La Jolla Friday and Saturday before opening Big West play Sunday at UC San Diego.
