SAN LUIS OBISPO – Sophomore Peter Bandelj scored a game high 21 points and fellow guard Hamad Mousa added 19 Saturday afternoon as the Cal Poly men’s basketball program – playing its first home game in 24 days following a six-game road trip – outlasted Division III Redlands inside Mott Athletics Center, 87-81.
Sophomores Cayden Ward and Austin Goode each finished with 11 points apiece for Cal Poly (4-5), which utilized a Ward layup with two minutes remaining to break a 78-78 deadlock before Bandelj followed with his fourth and final three-pointer to extend the lead. Mousa and Bandelj then both sank a pair of free throws in the final minute to keep Redlands at a distance.
Bandelj recorded nine rebounds and a (career high) nine assists for Cal Poly, which shot 53.3 (32-for-60) percent from the floor while sinking 12 three-pointers. Redlands, which reached the 2025 NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinals, was held to a 37.0 (30-for-81) percent shooting mark.
A layup from senior forward Aaron Price, Jr., handed Cal Poly a 38-30 lead two minutes before halftime with the Mustangs taking a 41-35 advantage into the break.
Redlands, however, opened the second half with a 12-3 run to surge in front and still led 71-66 with six-and-a-half minutes to play. The Mustangs though received a Goode layup and Ward three-pointer to tie the matchup before the Ward layup with two minutes left placed Cal Poly in front for certain.
