SAN LUIS OBISPO – Bringing depth to the lineup heading into the fall of 2026, the Cal Poly men’s golf program recently announced the additions of Eidan Jamzidi (Kuala Lampur, Malaysia) and Leo McDonough (Lafayette, Calif.) during the November signing date period.
Set to arrive at Cal Poly following a standout youth career while attending Wellington College (Crowthorne, England), Jamzidi’s recent achievements include a first-place finish at July’s Junior World Cup at Kingsmill Golf Course (Williamsburg, Va.).
Jamzidi, a member of the Malaysia National Team program, also owns top-50 finishes at the 2025 USwing Junior World Championship and 2024 IMG Junior World Championship. Jamzidi intends to major in economics.
“Eidan has made great strides with his scoring in the past year and is investing in his winter training to tee up for a breakout summer in 2026,” head coach Phil Rowe said. “He was initially looking at Ivy League schools while visiting the United States and competing in events such as the Mojing Junior World Championship at Torrey Pines and US Amateur and Junior Amateur where he had admirable finishes.
“Through his travels, Eidan quickly decided that the West Coast was his vibe. He set his heart on Cal Poly as his top school and dedicated himself to making this special signing day possible. We look forward to seeing what Eidan can accomplish during his time as a Mustang.”
McDonough enters his final season at Campolindo HS as the reigning Diablo Athletic League Most Valuable Player selection and having helped direct the program to three successive league championships. McDonough, whose father Joe, played tennis at Cal Poly, intends to major in business. He also graduated from the same high school as former Mustang standout Baron Szeto.
“Leo has the rare combination of strength in speed and stability. He’s impressive with his power from the tee, but even more so with deft touch around – and a great putter on – the greens.” said Rowe of McDonough, who shares the same Sept. 14, 2007 birthdate as Jamzidi. “Leo played a lot of sports growing up, including baseball (pitcher) and football (quarterback). At the point where we started recruiting Leo, he’d only been playing competitive golf for one-and-a-half years. However, it was clear he had the passion and ability to take his game to the top.”
As a program, Cal Poly opens the spring portion of the 2025-26 schedule at College of Charleston’s Battle at Briar’s Creek, scheduled for Feb. 2-3 in Johns Island, S.C.
