SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Junior linebacker Mikey D’Amato put up one of the top defensive performances in Mustang history last week, posting 19 tackles and a sack against Sacramento State. His 19 tackles are tied for the fourth-most in a single game in program history and the most by a Mustang since 2021.
Through the first five games of the season, D’Amato leads Cal Poly with 56 total tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. He has also added two pass breakups and two quarterback hurries, anchoring the Mustang defense. During last Saturday's win over the Hornets, D'Amato came up with a game-winning sack as time expired.
Originally from Mission Viejo, D’Amato transferred to Cal Poly after starring at Saddleback College, where he earned Juco All-American honors in 2022 with 67 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two interceptions.
D’Amato and the Mustang defense will look to carry that intensity into Saturday’s Homecoming matchup against No. 7 UC Davis at Mustang Memorial Field at Spanos Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. and fans can catch the game in person or watch on ESPN+.
