Five Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Athletes Compete in USA Volleyball Event

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — Cal Poly beach volleyball was well represented this past weekend in Manhattan Beach at the USA Volleyball Junior Pan Am Games Trial as five current Mustangs participated in it, with four reaching the semifinals.

Senior Piper Ferch, sophomore Erin Inskeep, junior Ella Connor, junior Izzy Martinez, and freshman Maddy Byrne all competed in the event over the weekend. Ferch and Inskeep were partners as were Connor and Martinez. Byrne paired with LSU's Victoria Henkel.

Ferch and Inskeep as well as Connor and Martinez both reached the semifinals, facing each other to move on the finals. Ferch and Inskeep ended up winning 2-0 and moved on to the finals where they fell to Cal's Emma Donley and Portia Sherman. It was the only two sets of the weekend that Ferch and Inskeep lost.

Ferch and Inskeep placed second while Connor and Martinez finished third. Byrne and her partner lost a close match in the Round of 16 and finished ninth.
