
Four Mustangs Earn Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar Recognition

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly men’s golfers Ben Quick, Austin Liu, Baron Szeto and Parker Mapes – 67 percent of the program’s eligible roster – received Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar selection for the 2023-24 season Thursday morning.
To receive All-America Scholar selection, individuals must have been a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically, have participated in 50 percent of the team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and have maintained a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2.
A graduate student studying business administration, Quick (Beaconsfield, England) led Cal Poly this past season with four top 20 finishes while finishing second with a 73.2 stroke average. Also a graduate student with a bachelor’s in computer science, Liu (Oak Park, Calif.) produced a 74.0 stroke average.
A junior majoring in business administration, Szeto (Moraga, Calif.) finished fourth at April’s Big West Championship – a year after sharing the tournament title. He also led the Mustangs with a 72.9 stroke average and eight rounds in the 60s. Mapes (Pleasanton, Calif.), a junior majoring in agricultural business, finished with a 74.0 stroke average.
Cal Poly’s four selections were the most of any Big West program.
