SAN LUIS OBISPO – A two-year letterwinner with Utah and a former Serbian youth international, 6-7 forward Luka Tarlac recently completed a transfer to the Cal Poly men’s basketball program.
Making 20 appearances last season for a Utah program that reached the NIT semifinals, Tarlac has two years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2024-25 season.
Luka has all the physical tools to be an outstanding player in our system. His size, length and versatile skill set are a perfect fit. The pace and space of our offensive system will free him up and give him the space needed to be a playmaker. Our defensive concepts will allow us to take advantage of his versatile athleticism. We think he compliments our group well and he’s excited for a new opportunity at Cal Poly.- Mike DeGeorge, Cal Poly Head Coach
Tarlac debuted with Utah during the 2022-23 season, making 18 appearances and scoring a career best eight points against Idaho State in his first collegiate appearance.
Tarlac arrived at Utah after spending the 2021-22 with Serbian first division club OKK Dunav (on loan from KK Partizan). With Dunav, Tarlac averaged 7.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the floor. Tarlac set his single-game, first-division scoring high with 25 points against OKK Novi Pazar.
Appearing for Partizan’s U19 side for the 2019-20 campaign, Tarlac averaged 12.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 3.2 steals and 2.8 blocks per outing. Tarlac also appeared for Partizan’s U18 squad in the Adidas Next Generation Tournament.
At international level, Tarlac averaged 5.3 points per seven games during the 2018 FIBA U16 European Championship to help Serbia to a fifth-place finish.
Tarlac’s father, Dragan Tarlac, was the 31st overall selection in the 1995 NBA Draft by Chicago while also starring for European powerhouses Red Star (Serbia), Olympiacos (Greece), Real Madrid and CSKA Moscow during his career.
