SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly football added to its depth on the defensive line after signing Victory Johnson, who spent last season redshirting at Colorado.
Johnson, who is originally from San Diego and played high school at Cathedral Catholic, was listed as an inside linebacker on the Colorado roster and played linebacker in high school.
In high school, Johnson was ranked as a three-star prospect by several recruiting websites and was ranked as the No. 62 ranked player in the state of California by 247 Sports.
“When Victory made the decision to transfer from Colorado, we thought he would be someone that could be a great fit for us here,” head coach Paul Wulff said. “We knew Victory in high school, and he is an outstanding student. His athletic ability as a defensive player and as a student made this a very clear decision to add him to our team. We expect him to have a great career here.”
Johnson first attended Bishop’s High School in 2019 before transferring to Cathedral Catholic. Between the two schools, he helped them to a combined 35-10 record and won a CIF State Division I-AA Championship as a junior. As a senior in 2022, he recorded 46 tackles in six games.
Coach Wulff said Johnson will transition to playing defensive end with the Mustangs to bolster their defensive line.
