
No. 5 Mustangs Sweep UC Davis to Advance to Big West Championship Semifinals

LONG BEACH — Cal Poly beach volleyball made it look easy Thursday in their second match of the day in the Big West Championship against UC Davis, sweeping the Aggies 5-0 to advance to Friday's semifinals.
All five of the No. 5 Mustangs' pairs won in straight sets. The No. 2 pair of Piper Ferch and Erin Inskeep got it started with a 21-14, 21-12 win. Ferch and Inskeep are now 28-4 together on the year, two wins away from breaking the program record for wins by a pair in a season.
The No. 3 duo of Quinn Perry and Lindsey Sparks followed shortly after with a 21-18, 21-11 win. They are now 15-4 on the year.
Cal Poly's No. 4 pair of Piper Naess and Logan Walter then clinched it with a 21-12, 21-16 victory to send the Mustangs to the semifinals. They have stretched their win streak to 20 consecutive matches and are 23-3 on the season.
The Mustangs' No. 1 pair of Ella Connor and Izzy Martinez as well as the No. 5 pair of Abbey Reinard and Madison Nichols both won their matches to finish off the sweep. Connor and Martinez are 25-7 this season.
Cal Poly will play at 11 a.m. Friday against the winner of the 8:30 a.m. match between No. 8 Long Beach State and CSUN. The winner moves on to the championship match at 2:15 p.m.
