Martinez, Walter Named AVCA/CBVB Pair of the Week

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Following an outstanding performance at the Center of Effort Challenge, Cal Poly beach volleyball No. 2 duo of Izzy Martinez and Logan Walter were named the AVCA/CBVB Pair of the Week.
Martinez and Walter went 4-0, all against ranked teams, over the Center of Effort Challenge at home at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. They took down No. 2 pairs from No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 UCLA, No. 9 Cal, and No. 13 Arizona State.
All that earned them the national pair of the week honor. It was also a notable weekend for Martinez as she surpassed 100 career wins during the weekend, becoming the fourth Mustang to do so.
Martinez and Walter have been phenomenal this season. They have a record of 27-2 now on the year and have won 14 in a row. As a team, they helped the No. 6 Mustangs go 2-2 in the event, beating No. 9 Cal and No. 13 Arizona State and falling to No. 1 Stanford and No. 2 UCLA.
Cal Poly closes the regular season this weekend with one more event up in Palo Alto at Stanford, April 17-18. Friday, the No. 6 Mustangs will take on San Jose State at 9 a.m. and No. 2 Stanford at 1 p.m. Then on Saturday, they will face Pepperdine at 9 a.m. and No. 7 Cal at 11 a.m.
