Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Moves Up to No. 4 in Latest AVCA Rankings

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif - After an impressive weekend at home taking down two top ten teams, Cal Poly Beach Volleyball moved up to the No.4 spot in the latest AVCA Top 20 Poll. This is only the second time in program history the team has been ranked this high, matching the 2018 ranking.
The Mustangs are currently 23-5 and moved up in the poll after they finished third in the Center of Effort Challenge this past weekend. The COE tournament saw seven of the top 10 teams in the country compete against each other. Cal Poly went 2-2, taking down No.5 TCU 4-1 No.10 LMU 4-1, and were close to taking down No.1 UCLA and No.4 Florida State losing both with scores of 3-2. <a href="https://twitter.com/calpolybeach/status/1780347361715232946?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 16, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> )
A pair that helped the team find success this past weekend was Piper Naess and Logan Walter as they went 4-0 against No.1 UCLA, No.4 Florida State, No.5 TCU, and No.10 LMU. With this performance the pair won Big West Pair of the Week, making them the third pair to do so this season. The other pairs being Quinn Perry and Lindsay Sparks, Ella Connor and Izzy Martinez.
The Mustangs are heading to New Orleans this weekend to play Southern Mississippi on Friday at 10:45pm PT followed by Tulane at 2pm PT. On Saturday they will play UAB at 8:30am PT and University of Louisiana-Monroe at 11:15am PT.
Following the tournament this weekend Cal Poly will begin postseason play at the Big West tournament April 25 and 26 at Long Beach City College. The Mustangs are looking to win their fourth Big West Title in the last five years.
