DAVIS, Calif. – The ninth ranked Cal Poly beach volleyball team continues to roll through the competition, winning all three of its matches Saturday at the first day of the Big West Challenge in Davis to extend its win streak to 12 matches.
The No. 9 Mustangs improved their record to a blistering 17-2 after defeating Cal State Bakersfield (4-1), UC Davis (5-0), and CSUN (5-0).
Cal Poly dropped only point the entire day. The pairs of Ella Connor and Izzy Martinez as well as Logan Walter and Margo Smith were a perfect 3-0 on the day. Individually, Erin Inskeep, Quinn Perry, Abbey Reinard, and Madison Nichols also were 3-0 while playing with at least two partners.
All 14 of the matches the Mustangs won on the day were in two sets. Connor and Martinez, playing primarily at the No. 1 spot, are now 15-4 on the year and have won nine in a row. Piper Ferch and Erin Inskeep are a team-leading 16-1, mostly at the No. 2 spot. And the duo of Madison Nichols and Quinn Perry, who went 1-0 together Saturday, are 6-0 when playing together this season.
Cal Poly will look to keep the win streak going Sunday when facing No. 7 Long Beach State at 9 a.m., No. 12 Hawai'i at 1 p.m., and Sacramento State at 3 p.m.
