No. 9 Mustangs Look to Stay Hot this Weekend at Big West Challenge

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif - The ninth ranked Cal Poly beach volleyball team is coming off a 4-0 weekend. The team is on a nine game winning streak and look to stay hot this weekend at the annual Big West Challenge in Davis/Sacramento, where they face each team from the Big West. Saturday, they are taking on Cal State Bakersfield at 9 a.m. then UC Davis at 1 p.m. and finishing with a match against CSUN at 3 p.m., all of these matches take place in Davis. Sunday, they are playing No. 7 Long Beach State at 9 a.m. in Davis, followed by No. 12 Hawaii at 1 p.m. in Sacramento and then a match against Sacramento State at 3 p.m. in Sacramento. The No. 9 Mustangs are currently 14-2 with some big wins against ranked teams, including No.8 California, No.14 GCU, and No.18 Stetson. The dominant duo at the two spot of Piper Ferch and Erin Inskeep are 14-1 this season. Their success has been recognized by collegebeachvb.com, ranking the pair the top No.2 team in the country. Ferch and Inskeep are 5-1 against ranked teams, including a big win over No.1 USC. Some more pairs leading the way are Ella Connor and Izzy Martinez at the No.1 spot who are 12-4, Madison Nichols and Quinn Perry at the No.3 spot are 5-0, Quinn Perry and Lindsey Sparks at the No.3 spot at 5-1, and Piper Naess and Logan Walter at the No.4 spot are sitting at 9-3. The Mustangs are 16-2 all-time against Cal State Bakersfield, 7-1 vs. UC Davis, 11-2 against CSUN, and 9-3 vs. Sacramento State. After this weekend Cal Poly heads to Berkeley to play Feather River College and No. 6 Cal next Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
