No. 9 Mustangs Finish Home Opener with Sweeps over Santa Clara, UC Davis

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly beach volleyball kept things rolling Sunday, extending its winning streak to nine in a row after sweeping both Santa Clara and UC Davis by scores of 5-0 to finish its first home event of the season at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. Against the Broncos, the No. 9 Mustangs (14-2) got straight set wins at four of the five spots. The No. 1 pair of Ella Connor and Izzy Martinez, the No. 2 pair of Erin Inkseep and Piper Ferch, the No. 3 pair of Quinn Perry and Madison Nichols, and the No. 4 pair of Logan Walter and Piper Naess all won in two sets. Cal Poly's No. 5 duo of Abbey Reinard and Julia Soeller also won their match in three sets, coming back after dropping the first to win the next two and complete the sweep. A few hours later against the Aggies, the Mustangs changed up the pairings a bit from the first match but also saw four of the five pairs win in straight sets. Playing at the No. 2 spot, Connor and Martinez won in straight sets as did the No. 3 pair of Perry and Lindsey Sparks, the No. 4 pair of Nichols and Reinard, and the No. 5 pair of Naess and Walter. Moving up the No. 1 spot in the lineup for the first time this season, Ferch and Inskeep kept their strong season going after coming back to win in three sets. They have now won 10 straight matches and are a team-leading 14-1 together this season. The Mustangs finished their first home event of the season 4-0, three of them 5-0 victories, and are now off to a 14-2 start to the season. Next weekend, the Mustangs will head up to Davis and Sacramento for the Big West Challenge in which they will face all the other Big West teams Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24.
