LA JOLLA, Calif. — Three players went undefeated across singles and doubles play as the Cal Poly women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory at UC San Diego on Friday at the Northview Tennis Courts.
The Mustangs (7-6, 2-1 Big West) took care of business against the Tritons to secure their second straight victory.
For the ninth time this season, Cal Poly opened the dual by securing the doubles point. Sisters Delanie Dunkle and Peyton Dunkle coasted to a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot to improve to an incredible 10-2 on the season and remain perfect in Big West play (3-0) this spring. The duo has now won seven straight matches. Delanie is currently fifth all-time in program history in career dual doubles victories with 51.
At the No. 2 spot, junior Eliza Bates and sophomore Kennedy Buntrock clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win, improving to 2-1 as a pairing this season. Junior Romane Mosse and sophomore Sarah MacCallum were leading their match at the No. 3 spot 4-3 when the doubles point was clinched.
Cal Poly emerged victorious in five of the six singles matches, and Delanie (No. 1), Peyton (No. 2) and sophomore Alexandra Ozerets (No. 4) all posted victories in straight sets. Delanie upped her record in conference singles matches this spring to 3-0, while Ozerets moved to 8-5 overall on the year.
Bates grabbed a win in three sets at the No. 6 spot to improve to 3-1 this spring. At No. 5, Mosse earned a thrilling comeback win via a super tiebreaker to grab her sixth consecutive singles victory. She improved to 9-4 this season.
The Mustangs will take a two-week break in action before hosting Division III Pomona-Pitzer on Friday, March 29, at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
