SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly track and field program heads to Seattle this Friday through Saturday to compete in its final full team meet of the indoor season.
Action at the Husky Classic hosted by Washington inside Dempsey Indoor begins at 1:30 p.m. Friday and continues Saturday at 9 a.m. You can follow the live results here and a livestream of the meet is available on RunnerSpace.com with a subscription.
A total of 41 Mustangs are slated to compete in the two-day invitational, including 27 women and 14 men.
This meet marks the third time Cal Poly has traveled to Seattle this indoor season.
Last time out at the UW Invitational on Jan. 26-27, junior Corban Payne (men's indoor shot put) and sophomore Rory Devaney (men's weight throw) both broke their own program records, and senior Joey Souto (men's indoor 400-meter), sophomore MacGregor TeSelle (men's 60-meter) and freshman Ben Kin Ho Tsang (men's 60-meter hurdles) all shattered school records that were established last year when men competed indoors for the Mustangs for the first time in Division I program history. Junior Spencer Pickren became the fourth Mustang in program history to run a sub-four-minute mile, posting a time of 3:59.38 — second-fastest in school history.
Graduate Shelby Daniele also put on an impressive performance for the Mustangs in their last trip to UW, placing runner-up in the women's 200 and third in the 60 with a personal best of 7.53 seconds. Daniele is the school record holder in the indoor 200 and No. 2 all-time in the 60, and she is set to compete in both events at the Husky Classic. Sophomore Tatiana Cornejo entered the top marks list in the women's indoor mile at the UW Invitational, running the fifth-fastest time (4:46.10) in school history. She will run the 5,000 this weekend.
Following the Husky Classic, a few Mustangs will return to Dempsey Indoor for the final time this indoor season to take part in the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite on Feb. 23-24.
