Mustangs Go 5-0 in Doubles on Opening Day of Beach Fall Tourney

LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis program had a strong showing during the first day of the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament on Thursday as the team went a perfect 5-0 in doubles play, and senior Peyton Dunkle and junior Alexandra Ozerets both advanced to the Round of 16 in Main Draw singles action.

It was an exciting start to the 2024 fall season for the Mustangs in the four-day tournament hosted by Long Beach State at the Rhodes Tennis Center.

All five of Cal Poly's doubles teams earned victories in their opening matches in the Main Draw at the tourney. Senior Eliza Bates and freshman Jessica MacCallum won 8-3, senior Romane Mosse and junior Kennedy Buntrock 8-4, senior Peyton Dunkle and redshirt sophomore Amy Leather 8-7 (7-4), junior Sarah MacCallum and freshman Anushree Shekhera 8-5, and junior Alexandra Ozerets and sophomore Natalie Lynch 8-4.

Dunkle and Ozerets both went 2-0 in the singles Main Draw to advance to the Round of 16 on Friday. Sarah and Jessica MacCallum, Mosse and Buntrock each posted a singles victory in the Main Draw on Thursday.

Action on day two of the tournament starts at 9 a.m. Friday.
