In the Mustangs' last trip to Seattle on Jan. 13 for the UW Indoor Preview, graduate student Shelby Daniele broke her own school record in the women's indoor 200-meter and five program records were established on the men's side. Graduate student Davis Bove (men's 1,000), senior Joey Souto (men's 600), junior Corban Payne (men's shot put), and sophomores MacGregor TeSelle (men's 200) and Rory Devaney (men's weight throw) all established indoor program records. TeSelle and Payne also took first in their respective events at the meet.
Last year marked the first time in Division I program history men competed indoors for the Mustangs.
Several school records are in jeopardy of being shattered this weekend in Seattle, including the men's indoor 400 and 800 records. Souto and sophomore Carson Smith are slated to race in those events respectively. Smith opened the indoor season on Dec. 2 by running a time of 3:59.41 in the mile, becoming the third Mustang in program history to run a sub-four-minute mile. His time is currently the 16th-fastest ran in Division I this season.
The UW Invitational will mark the first action of the indoor season for Cal Poly's pole vaulters. Sophomore Lexi Evans highlights the list of entries. Last year as a true freshman, she placed second in the women's pole vault at the Big West Championships and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries. She is currently No. 4 all-time in school history in the indoor pole vault (12 feet, 11.5 inches).
A full list of Cal Poly's entries in the UW Invitational can be found below.
The Mustangs travel back to Dempsey Indoor for the third and final time as a team this indoor season on Feb. 9-10 to take part in the Husky Classic.
