Mustangs Compete in Abbreviated Cal Winter Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. — In its first action of the spring season, junior Romane Mosse and sophomores Kennedy Buntrock and Alexandra Ozerets all went undefeated in singles play for Cal Poly women's tennis during the Cal Winter Invite this Friday through Sunday.
The annual three-day tournament was reduced to two days of play as action Saturday was completely canceled due to rain. Last year, the invitational was canceled entirely due to rain.
The Mustangs battled players from No. 19 Cal, Saint Mary's and San Francisco in singles and doubles action during the tourney.
On the opening day Friday, Mosse earned a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Saint Mary's Tian Yu Dong, Ozerets took down Cal's Cami Brown 6-4, 7-5 and Buntrock defeated Saint Mary's Juliette Daries 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in singles. Sophomore Sarah MacCallum and freshman Natalie Lynch teamed up for a doubles victory, topping a pairing for the Gaels 6-2.
During the final day of the invite Sunday, sophomore Eliza Bates, Mosse and Buntrock all posted singles victories in straight sets, and Ozerets captured a come from behind 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over San Francisco's Alicia Yue.
Mosse and Ozerets, Bates and MacCallum and fifth-year Delanie Dunkle and junior Peyton Dunkle teamed up for doubles victories. MacCallum finished 2-1 in doubles throughout the tourney.
Cal Poly opens the dual portion of its season this coming weekend in Spokane when they take on Montana on Saturday, Jan. 20, and Gonzaga on Sunday, Jan. 21.
