Jackson Parrish Claims Nevada State Match Play Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly rising junior Jackson Parrish won five consecutive matches to capture top honors in the Nevada State Match Play held Thursday through Sunday at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
Parrish, who won the Southern Nevada Amateur Championship a year ago, qualified for match play with a 66, earning the No. 2 seed, then won his five matches to claim the title in 109-degree heat. The six-under-par round Thursday included seven birdies and one bogey.
Parrish, from Henderson, Nevada, and a transfer from Colorado School of Mines a year ago, won his first match when his opponent, Brett Belt, was forced to withdraw.
Parrish won his second match 6 and 5 against Brett Sodetz, his third match 3 and 1 over Raymond Kim and his fourth match 3 and 2 versus Michael Sarro to earn a spot in the 36-hole finals against Craig Erickson of Henderson, Nevada. Parrish won that match 6 and 5.
Parrish finished the first 18 holes with a two-hole lead and claimed five holes in the second half of play, losing just one, to wrap up the match on the 13th hole.
Parrish posted Cal Poly's' best scoring average of 73.1 over 33 rounds during the 2022-23 season with three top-10 finishes and 12 rounds of par or better, including four rounds in the 60s. His best finish was fourth in the Orange County Collegiate and he placed sixth in the Big West Conference Championship at La Quinta.
