Neale Leads Cal Poly to Eighth Place in NCAA Pullman Regional

FIRST-ROUND RESULTS
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Nicole Neale carded a four-under-par 68 and is tied for ninth place after the opening day of competition in the 2023 NCAA Pullman Regional women's golf tournament on Monday at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.
Neale signed a scorecard with six birdies and a pair of bogeys on the 6,405-yard par-72 course. Starting on the 10th tee, Neale birdied five holes on the back nine and added another on the seventh hole.
Jensen Jalufka eagled the 509-yard par-5 17th hole and finished her round at even par along with Mustang teammate Elizabeth Scholtes. They are tied for 30th place.
Jalufka earned four birdies and the eagle to go with three bogeys and a triple-bogey. Scholtes checked in with four birdies and an equal number of bogeys.
Kamille Dimayuga is tied for 47th place at two over par while Vanessa Wang is tied for 61st place following her round of 78.
Neale was one of 12 golfers still on the course when play was suspended due to rain. She completed her final hole when play resumed while the other golfers had one to three holes to complete after the 45-minute delay.
Coach Courtney Roberts' Mustangs finished the first 18 holes of play in eighth place with a four-person two-under-par 286 total. There are 12 teams competing in each of the six regionals across the country, with the top five teams in each advancing to the NCAA Division I National Championships on May 19-24 at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Cal Poly is three shots behind fifth-place Houston and Baylor with 36 holes remaining to be played Tuesday and Wednesday.
Top-ranked Stanford leads the team standings with a 21-under-par 267 total, followed by No. 13 USC at 272 and No. 32 Texas Tech with a 277 aggregate.
Neale leads the 66-player field in par-three scoring at two under par while Jalufka is tied for sixth in par-five scoring at four under par. Neale's six birdies are tied for fourth place and Jalufka is one of 20 golfers to card eagles in Monday's round.
Tuesday's round begins at 8 a.m. with the final round Wednesday also set for an 8 a.m. start.
