
Cal Poly Women's Golf Team to Compete in NCAA Pullman Regional

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Cal Poly women's golf team is headed to Palouse Ridge Golf Club for the 2023 NCAA Pullman Regional.
The Mustangs, who competed in the Stanford Regional each of the last two seasons, have qualified for the NCAA regionals three straight years after capturing their third consecutive Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship two weeks ago at the Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas.
Washington State will be the host of the Pullman Regional, which will include 12 teams and six individuals. Cal Poly is seeded 11th in the 12-team field. Stanford is the top seed, followed by Baylor and Pac-12 champion USC.
Other teams in the Pullman Regional are Atlantic Coast Conference champion Clemson, Big Sky champion Sacramento State, Horizon League champion Green Bay and at-large entrants Kentucky, Texas Tech, Houston, North Carolina and UNLV.
Among the six individuals in the field is Tiffany Le of UC Riverside, runner-up in the Big West finals. Big West individual champion Jasmine Leovao of Long Beach State has qualified for the San Antonio Regional (TPC San Antonio).
Competition begins Monday with the first round, followed by the second round Tuesday and the final round Wednesday.
The other four regional sites are Westfield, Indiana (The Club at Chatham Gills Golf Course), Raleigh, N.C. (Lonnie Poole Golf Course), Athens, Georgia (University of Georgia Golf Course) and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida (PGA National Resort).
Top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team from each of the six regionals (30 teams and six individuals total) will advance to the 2023 NCAA Division I National Women's Golf Championship on May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Twenty-seven conferences received automatic qualification to the 2022 Division I Women's Golf Championship with another 45 teams earning at-large bids. Cal Poly is the lone representative from the Big West Conference after defeating Long Beach State by 11 strokes on April 18.
In addition to the 2021 and 2022 Stanford regionals, Cal Poly also competed in the 2017 Albuquerque Regional. The Mustangs have claimed four of the last six Big West team championships (no Big West championship was held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) but are seeking their first trip to the nationals in program history.
This year's Mustang squad for the regionals consists of sophomore Kamille Dimayuga, juniors Nicole Neale and Jensen Jalufka and fifth-year seniors Elizabeth Scholtes and Vanessa Wang.
Neale sports a 73.9 scoring average this season with four top-10 finishes and eight rounds of par or better, including three rounds in the 60s. Dimayuga is averaging 74.0 strokes per round with five top-20 finishes and seven rounds of par or better.
Jalufka is averaging 74.4 strokes per round while Wang averages 74.8 strokes and Scholtes carries a 75.3 average.At the Big West Conference Championship held April 16-18 at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas, Cal Poly turned a one-stroke lead over Long Beach State into an 11-stroke victory.
Coach Courtney Roberts' Mustangs led by as many as 15 strokes on the final 18 holes of play on the 6,315-yard par-72 course.
Senior Vanessa Wang led the way with a final-round 73 en route to a fourth-place tie and junior Nicole Neale also finished in the three-way tie for fourth place with a final-round 77. Both compiled six-over-par 222 totals for 54 holes.
Sophomore Kamille Dimayuga shared seventh place with two other golfers at 224, posting a final-round 76. Junior Jensen Jalufka placed 16th and senior Elizabeth Scholtes 18th as all five Mustang golfers notched top-20 finishes. Jalufka carded a final-round 76 and Scholtes 78.
Cal Poly compiled a four-person 302 total on another windy day while Long Beach State posted a 312 total. The Mustangs finished with a 29-over-par 893 aggregate while The Beach checked in at 904. Third place went to UC Riverside at 909 and Cal State Fullerton was another stroke back at 910 for fourth place.
