STANFORD, Calif. — The Big West Champion women’s golf program orchestrated its best NCAA Regional finish in program history, placing 9th of a twelve-team field at the Stanford Golf Course earlier this week.
The Mustangs carded an 885 team score for the tournament, the program’s second-best performance of the season by strokes. Nicole Koong was Cal Poly’s highest placing golfer, tying for 18th with a season-best 215, which included a pair of par-or-under rounds to kick off the three-day event.
Koong, a sophomore from Sammamish, Wash., once again added onto her already impressive resume from this season. Aside from earning First Team All-Big West praise, Koong jumped 2024-25 individual NCAA qualifier Jensen Jalufka as the program’s career average leader.
Koong finished the season with a 73.7 stroke per round average, 0.4 strokes higher than the previous mark set by Jalufka. Koong also wrapped 2025-26 with a 72.9 season stroke average, the second best mark in program history.
Maddy Saysanasongkham followed closely behind Koong, carding a 217 and tied for a 24th place finish. Her 74.8 stroke average tied Nicole Neal for third in career scoring average at 74.8 with only Jalufka and Koong in front. The true freshman’s 70-stroke third round tied for her personal best and was the second straight tournament in which she had a par-or-under round.
Another freshman, Alex Flier, tied for 47th with a 229 total score for the tournament, placing third among Mustangs. Rounding out the scoring was Sara Torres, placing 52nd on a 230 score. Sara Yoo finished just outside of the team scoring with 235 strokes.
