LAHAINA, Maui — For the fifth time in program history and first time since 2023, Courtney Roberts and Cal Poly women’s golf are Big West Champions.
After a fifth place performance in last season’s edition of the tournament, the Mustangs were hungry for a return to the top. All four scoring golfers — Yoo, Koong, Saysanasongkham, and Flier — placed in the top-15 and even Torres, whose score was dropped as the fifth, placed top-20. Yoo and Koong, as a result of placing in the top-5 individually, were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Cal Poly saved its best golf for last, firing a final-round 3-under to storm past the field and secure the 2026 Big West Women's Golf Championship Tuesday at the Kaanapali Golf Resort. The victory marks the program's fifth conference title and a triumphant return to the winner's circle after last hoisting the trophy in 2023.
Entering the final day with a narrow grip on first place, the Mustangs solidified their unlikely run with a closing team score of 285, the second best single round of the entire tournament among the field. That clutch performance erased any doubt and propelled Cal Poly to a 54-hole total of 866, finishing six strokes clear of runner-up UC Davis (+8), their best Big West Championship team total and eighth best overall tournament score in program history.
Sarah Yoo led the charge individually for Cal Poly, finishing in solo fourth place at 1-under 215, just one stroke off her career-low. She opened with back-to-back rounds of 71 before closing with a steady 73. Just behind her, Nicole Koong carded a crucial final-round 70, featuring five birdies, to surge into a tie for fifth at even-par 216, tying for her best tourney of the season.
Maddy Saysanasongkham and Alex Flier both landed at a 14th-place tie, representing the Big West first years brilliantly while both setting new three-round career lows. Saysanasongkham posted a final-round 2-under 70, while Flier contributed a steady even-par 72. Sara Torres rounded out the scoring five in a tie for 18th at 5-over.
With the automatic qualifier secured, the Mustangs now turn their attention to the 2026 NCAA DI Women’s Golf Selection Show, which will be on GOLF Channel on Wednesday, April 29 at 10 a.m.
The NCAA Regionals will be held from May 5-7 at six sites around the country, including Ann Arbor, Mich., Chapel Hill, N.C., Huntsville, Ala., Stanford, Calif., Tallahassee, Fla. and Waco, Texas. The championship is scheduled for May 22-27 in Carlsbad, Calif.
