SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Junior Nick Gammal and sophomore Maya Holman will officially kick off the Big West Track and Field Championships for the Mustangs when they compete in the decathlon and heptathlon Friday and Saturday at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Track Complex.
Competition in the decathlon starts at noon each day, while events in the heptathlon begin at 12:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. There are 18 entries in the heptathlon and only nine in the decathlon.
Live results for the Big West Multi-Event Championships are available here. You can follow Cal Poly track and field on Twitter and Instagram for updates throughout the meet.
A handful of Cal Poly's distance runners on the men's side will also take part in the Oxy Invitational on Saturday in Los Angeles to wrap up the Mustangs' regular season slate of meets.
In her debut at the Big West Multi-Event Championships last season, Holman shined, recording personal bests in five of seven events to place sixth in the heptathlon as a true freshman with 4,435 points.

Three weeks ago at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Holman won her section of the heptathlon with a lifetime-best point total of 4,847 — good for No. 10 on Cal Poly's all-time list in the event.
This season, Holman has posted personal bests in six of the seven events in the heptathlon and most recently tossed a PR of 139 feet, 10 inches in the javelin at the Mustang Invitational — the sixth best mark in the Big West this season.
During this indoor season, Holman recorded the fifth-best point total (3,254) in program history in the pentathlon. The Vacaville native enters the conference meet ranked No. 3 in the Big West in the heptathlon.
On the opening day of the heptathlon, Holman will compete in four events — the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200. She will wrap up the meet Saturday with the long jump, javelin and 800.
Gammal also made his first appearance at the Big West Multi-Event Championships last spring, posting a personal best point total of 6,020 in the decathlon to finish seventh and score team points for the Mustangs. At the meet, Gammal recorded PRs in seven of the 10 events.
So far this season, Gammal has established new personal bests in the high jump, shot put, discus, javelin and 110 hurdles. His mark of 188 feet, 5 inches in the javelin is 10th-best in the Big West this year.
The first day of competition in the decathlon will consist of the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400. Gammal concludes the meet on Saturday with the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500.
The rest of the Big West Championship meet will be held on Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13, at the Titan Track Complex.
