SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly track and field returns to action this Friday and Saturday to compete in the Bulldog Classic hosted by Fresno State.
Over 40 Mustangs are making the trip to the San Joaquin Valley to take part in Cal Poly's second outdoor meet of the season. Action begins noon Friday with the hammer throw and javelin at Warmerdam Field. The rest of the events will be contested Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, with competition starting at 10 a.m.
You can follow the live results from the meet here.
The Mustangs are looking to build off an impressive start to the outdoor season which saw six athletes post top 10 all-time marks and Cal Poly claim 26 event victories. During the Cal Poly Open on March 3 at the Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex, Jadyn Snaer sprinted into the Mustang record books in the women's 100-meter dash. She won the event with a time of 11.63 seconds, tied with Tamela Holland (1982) for the third-fastest in school history. The 60-meter school record holder shaved well over .40 seconds off her previous personal best.
Shelby Daniele was right on Snaer's heels, finishing second with a time of 11.78, moving up to No. 7 all-time in the 100. Daniele and Snaer tore up the history books during the indoor season and are already doing the same outdoors.
In the women's pole vault at the Cal Poly Open, Annie Hatzenbeler and Lexi Evans (pictured above) each cleared 13 feet, 1.5 inches, moving them both into a tie with Sydney Jaques (2021) for sixth on the Mustangs' all-time list.
A pair of throwers also entered Cal Poly's top-10 list in the outdoor opener. Corban Payne tossed the eighth-best mark in the men's hammer throw (183-7.75), while Amaya Lopez-Fuller moved to No. 9 all-time in the women's discus (162-11). All six athletes will be in action this weekend at the Bulldog Classic, along with 15 other Mustangs who captured individual victories at the Cal Poly Open.
Mathis Bresko (pole vault), Snaer (100) and Lopez-Fuller (discus) all currently own the top mark in the Big West in their respective events. Bresko is the defending conference champion in the men's pole vault.
Cal Poly returns home next week to host the inaugural Conover Classic on March 24-25 at the Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex. The meet is named after former Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mark Conover, who passed away last April after a battle with a form of skin cancer.
