SALT LAKE CITY – Playing its fourth straight road match to open the season, the Cal Poly men's tennis team fell on the road Sunday to the University of Utah, 4-0.
The Mustangs (1-3) just missed taking the doubles point from the Utes. After Utah won at the No. 1 spot, Cal Poly's No. 2 duo of juniors Noah Berry and Colter Smith won their match at the No. 2 spot, 7-5 to push their win streak to two straight.
At the No. 3 spot, redshirt juniors Fernando Fonseca and Ben Keyser forced a tiebreaker but lost it 7-2 to give Utah the point.
In singles, Utah started with a straight sets win at the No. 3 spot followed by another pair of straight sets wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to clinch the dual.
The Mustangs will now start a stretch of eight straight home matches over the course of the next six weeks starting with the home opener against the University of San Francisco Friday, Feb. 10 at noon.
