ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Shelby Daniele sprinted past a school record and Mathis Bresko (pictured above) soared to a lifetime best to highlight action for Cal Poly track and field during the first day of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.
Seventeen Mustangs competed Friday and battled some of the best teams and athletes in the country at 4,950 feet above sea level.
Daniele shined in the women's 200-meter, posting a time of 24.685 seconds at altitude to shatter the previous indoor school record of 24.74 (Tamatha Jackson, 1999). She improved upon her previous personal best by .24 seconds to jump to the top of the all-time list.
Jadyn Snaer, the school record holder in the 60-meter dash, and Anisa Rind also ran the 200. Snaer recorded a lifetime best of 25.08 and was just 0.02 seconds away from entering the top-five list in the event. Rind earned an indoor PR of 25.28.
Bresko added to his Division I indoor school record in the men's pole vault, clearing a lifetime best indoor or outdoor of 17 feet, 6.25 inches to capture sixth. The defending Big West pole vault champion obliterated his previous indoor PR of 16-8.
In the men's 200-meter, Tyler Esteves (21.97) and Chris Davis (22.17) both ran indoor PRs, while Chase Walter (22.23) recorded a lifetime best.
Melody Nwagwu, who broke the school record in the long jump two weeks ago, leaped 18 feet, 9.5 inches to finish 21st in a field of over 80 jumpers.
Olivia Rankin and Chase Kubinski both recorded a PR of 4-11.75 in the women's long jump, Wesley Salzman had a solid time in the men's 400 (49.34) and Cassidy Hubert ran a season best in the women's 400-meter (58.58).
