SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly men's tennis head coach Nick Carless announced Thursday that three players – Clayton Anderson, Jack Cross, and Sean Kamyshev have signed with the program.
Anderson and Cross will be joining the Mustangs next fall, while Kamyshev will be coming in this upcoming January and join the team for the 2024 spring season.Clayton Anderson
Anderson, a native on Rochester Hills, MI, is rated as a four-star recruit and 84th in the 2024 class by TennisRecruiting.net. He plans to major in Business at Cal Poly and said he chose the Mustangs for the academics, location and coaches.
"Clayton took an official visit here last April and fit in very well with our team," Carless said of Anderson. "He is one of, if not the top player from the state of Michigan in his class. He has great feel for the sport, a great build for tennis at 6'3", has a world class backhand and loves to compete. He has so many of the characteristics we look for when recruiting Mustangs." Jack CrossCross, who is from Newport Beach in southern California, is also rated as a four-star recruit and ranked 70th in the 2024 class by TennisRecruiting.net. He comes from a tennis family as both of his parents played in college as did two of his uncles.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jack to the Mutangs," Carless said. "He is one of the best players coming out of southern California for the class of 2024. He is athletic, technically sound, has a strong all-court game anchored by his backhand and court coverage. He has all the tools to compete at the highest levels of collegiate tennis."
Kamyshev, a Nesher, Israel native, will be coming to San Luis Obispo in January to join the Mustangs starting in the spring 2024 season. He attended Seacrest Country Day School in Naples, FL, where as a senior he went undefeated and was named Southwest Florida Tennis Player of the Year.
Following his graduation from high school, Kamyshev spent a few years as a commander in the Israeli Defense Forces.Sean Kamyshev
"Sean is a great mid-year addition for our team," Carless said. "He is very quick on the court and is a strong, physical baseline player with a well-rounded technique on all his shots. He has the experience and maturity to impact our lineup this coming season."
