
Cal Poly Women's Tennis Rolls Past GCU in Opener

TUCSON, Ariz. — Cal Poly women's tennis started the 2023 spring season off in winning fashion, rolling past Grand Canyon 4-1 Saturday at Arizona's LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
The Mustangs captured the doubles point to open the dual. Sisters Delanie Dunkle and Peyton Dunkle teamed up for a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot, and freshman Kennedy Buntrock and sophomore Eliza Bates clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
In singles, the Antelopes evened things up at 1-1 as Melissa LaMette fell to GCU's Dania Deaifi, 6-2, 6-0. But the Mustangs answered with three victories in straight sets.
Buntrock earned Cal Poly's first singles win of the season at the No. 5 spot, cruising 6-0, 6-3. Then fellow freshman Alexandra Ozerets gave Cal Poly a 3-1 advantage at the No. 6 spot, winning her match 6-2, 6-3.
With a season-opening victory within sight, Delanie Dunkle stepped up and closed the deal. She took down Madeline Lamoreaux 7-5, 7-5 in a hard-fought match at the No. 4 spot to clinch the dual victory for the Mustangs.
The win was also Cal Poly's first under head coach Ellie Edles Williams.
On Sunday, the Mustangs will look to finish off their trip to Tucson with another victory when they battle Pac-12 foe Arizona at 10 a.m. PST. You can watch the action on all six courts here.
