STANFORD, Calif. -- Kaylyn Noh, Cal Poly's reigning Big West Conference individual champion, carded an opening-round 73 in the NCAA Stanford Regional on Monday at the Stanford Golf Course.
With two birdies and four bogeys, Noh is tied with eight other golfers for 22nd place entering Tuesday's second round on the 6,267-yard par-71 course. The final round is set for Wednesday.
Caroline Cantlay opened with a 76 for 46th place while Jensen Jalufka carded a 77 (53rd place), Vanessa Wang a 78 (55th place) and Elizabeth Scholtes an 80 (59th place).
There are 12 teams and six individuals, a total of 66 golfers, competing for berths in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, slated for May 20-25 on the Raptor Course at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The top four teams and two individuals from non-qualifying teams advance to the nationals.
As a team, coach Sofie Aagaard's Mustangs are in 10th place with a 20-over-par 304 total. LSU leads with a five-under-par 279 aggregate, followed by Southern California (280) and Stanford (283).
Eleven golfers broke par in the opening round, led by LSU's Latanna Stone with a four-under-par 67, one stroke ahead of Ruby Chou of Iowa State. Five golfers checked in with two-under-par 69s for third place.
Jalufka is the lone Mustang in the top 10 in any statistical category as her 13 pars are tied for eighth place.
Cal Poly and Hawai'i shared first place in the Big West Conference Championship on April 12 at the San Luis Obispo Country Club. The Mustangs earned the conference's automatic berth in the NCAAs by winning a one-hole playoff.
Cal Poly is competing in its third regional in Aagaard's seven seasons as head coach. The Mustangs qualified for the Stanford Regional in 2021 as well as the Albuquerque Regional in 2017.
