"Academics have always been a very important factor in deciding where I wanted to go to school and knowing how academically rigorous it was not only to get into but also attend Cal Poly, I knew it wouldn’t be easy. But with my work ethic and passion for being a student-athlete, I knew that the hard work I put in would help me toward thriving throughout college. Along with my academic motivation, I knew that the environment I was in would be very important and that I wanted to be at a university that would allow me to be successful later on in life. When I visited Cal Poly’s campus, I got the chance to meet the coaches, the team, and even some of the sponsors for the golf program. They had all been some of the kindest people I have ever met. I saw how dedicated and passionate they were about the game and I knew that they were the kind of people I wanted to surround myself with for the years to come. Coach Sofie had created such an amazing team and their confidence in me made me believe that I had the potential to be very successful at Cal Poly. The team atmosphere was so inviting and I had never felt so comfortable around a group of people I had just met before in my life. They welcomed me like I was family and I knew that surrounding myself with such great influences would truly help me enjoy my experience there. Meeting some of the sponsors was absolutely amazing. I got to hear from them personally, what they have done and will continue to do toward expanding the resources for the golf program. In the end, what made me choose Cal Poly were the people. Everyone at Cal Poly made San Luis Obispo feel like a second home."

Cal Poly head coach Sofie Aagaard: "Kaylyn is a powerful player, a long hitter, with high standards for herself on and off the golf course," said Aagaard. "She has an unmatched passion for the game of golf, not afraid of working hard and to challenge herself to get better. Kaylyn got started with golf at an early age, through the First Tee and Little Linksters junior programs, and has developed into a great player. Not only does Kaylyn add low scores to a team, she is also a strong leader who is all about building a successful team. Kaylyn's academic successes and records are just as strong as her competitive golf records and she'll be an outstanding Mustang."
