
Cal Poly Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams Both Ranked in Final ITA Poll

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After successful campaigns by both the Cal Poly men's and women's tennis teams, both programs have been ranked in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings poll of the season. The men's team is ranked No. 63 while the women's team is ranked No. 70.
The Mustangs men's team finished the season 15-6 overall, going 5-1 in conference play to split the regular season conference title with UCSB to win at least a share of the Big West regular season crown for the second straight year.
Six players earned Big West All-Conference honors, headlined by sophomore Noah Berry being named First Team in singles and Joe Leather and Hendrik Inno earning First Team honors in doubles.
Cal Poly fell in the semifinals of the Big West Tournament to eventual champion UC Irvine, ending the Mustangs' run of making it to the championship match the five previous tournaments.
Next year, the men's team will return eight of its 10 players from this year's team, five of whom earned All-Big West honors.
This year marks the 11th consecutive year in which the Mustangs have been ranked in the top 75 in the final ITA poll of the season.
The Mustang women's team finished 2022 with a 17-7 overall record, the program's second most wins a single season in its Division I history and most since 2003. They went 8-1 during Big West play to finish second during the regular season, their highest finish since 2011. They also reached the Big West Tournament championship match for the second straight year.
Among the 17 wins were three over ranked opponents, including a 4-0 defeat of then No. 51 Fresno State, a win over then No. 75 Hawai'i and a victory over then No. 64 Cal State Fullerton. They also beat Long Beach State which marked the program's first win over the Beach in over a decade.
Six players earned All-Conference honors, highlighted by redshirt junior Kim Bhunu earning First Team honors in singles and the tandem of Bhunu and Emily Ackerman being named First Team in doubles.
