No. 61 Mustangs Collect Road Victory Over UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Sophomore Noah Berry had the dual-clinching singles win to help the Cal Poly men's tennis team pick up a 4-2 road win over UC Riverside Monday at the SRC Tennis Courts.
The Mustangs (12-4, 3-0 BWC) have now won three matches in a row and five of their last six. They also improve to 4-1 on the road this season.
Cal Poly took the doubles point over the Highlanders (3-11, 0-1 BWC) to start the dual. The No. 2 duo of graduate Hendrik Inno and redshirt sophomore Joe Leather got a 6-1 win before the No. 3 pairing of sophomore Noah Berry and redshirt sophomore Fernando Fonseca clinched the point after winning 6-2.
Leather and Inno have won their last three matches together and are 9-4 on the season. Berry and Fonseca continue to roll as they have now won eight consecutive matches and are a team-leading 10-2 this year.
In singles, Leather quickly gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead after a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot to push his record to 9-4. He was followed a short time later by freshman Bastiaan Weststrate picking up a 6-0, 6-4 win at the No. 6 spot.
UC Riverside made the score 3-2 after collecting wins at the No. 5 and No. 4 spots before Berry clinched the dual after battling for a three-set comeback win at the No. 1 spot, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Berry is now a team-best 10-4 in singles play this season.
The Mustangs return home for a pair of Big West matches this weekend starting Saturday, April 9 when they host UC Davis followed by UC San Diego on Sunday, April 10. Both matches start at noon.
