No. 61 Mustangs Snap UC Irvine’s Ten-Match Win Streak Sunday

IRVINE, Calif. — The Cal Poly men's tennis team earned a 4-2 road victory over UC Irvine Sunday, snapping the Anteaters' 10-match winning streak and improve to 2-0 in conference play.
The No. 61 Mustangs (11-4, 2-0 BWC) started the dual by taking the doubles point. The No. 2 duo of redshirt sophomore Joe Leather and graduate Hendrik Inno won their match 6-2 before the No. 3 tandem of sophomore Noah Berry and redshirt sophomore Fernando Fonseca took their match 6-4 to secure the point for Cal Poly.
Inno and Leather are 8-4 together on the year while Berry and Fonseca have now won seven straight matches and are a team-best 9-2 as a duo.
In singles, UC Irvine won at the No. 5 spot to tie the dual 1-1 before Fonseca regained the advantage for Cal Poly after he won his match at the No. 4 spot 6-3, 7-6(6).
Redshirt sophomore Colter Smith then gave the Mustangs a 3-1 lead after he won at the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to push his singles record this season to 7-4.
After the Anteaters won at the No. 2 spot to make it 3-2, freshman Bastiaan Weststrate (pictured) clinched the dual for Cal Poly after he won his match at the No. 6 spot in three sets,6-4, 6-7(7), 6-1.
The Mustangs, now 3-1 in road matches this season, will be right back in action Monday when they travel to face UC Riverside at 11 a.m.
