SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly men's tennis will share the Big West regular season title this year after the No. 55 Mustangs fell to No. 56 UCSB in the final match of the regular season Saturday at Mustang Tennis Complex, 4-0.
Cal Poly (15-5, 5-1 BWC) tied with UCSB atop the Big West standings at 5-1 to share the regular season crown. No. 72 Hawai'i would also be tied for first with a win over UC Irvine Sunday.
It marks the second straight year the Mustangs have won at least a share of the Big West regular season title after winning it outright last season.
In Saturday's match, Cal Poly got off to a strong start in doubles. The No. 2 Mustang duo of grad transfer Hendrik Inno and redshirt sophomore Joe Leather beat Kai Brady and Pablo Masjuan, 6-0. However, UCSB then picked up wins at the No. 1 and 3 spots to take the doubles point.
Inno and Leather finish the regular season with an 11-6 record together.
In singles, Cal Poly battled but UCSB picked up wins at the No. 6 spot, followed by the No. 5 spot, and then the No. 4 spot the clinch the dual victory.
With the regular season now in the books, the Mustangs will turn their attention to preparing for next weekend's Big West Tournament in San Diego. They will not know who they will face until Sunday's regular season matches are completed.
